How to Survive An Invasion At Your Home

Home invasion is scary, especially for children. We didn't know what it would feel like to be in the midst of home invasions when we began our home security installation journey. Here's the information we've gleaned so far.

  1. Do Not Allow Your Children to See The Attackers. Two men entered our home while our children were asleep upstairs. We kept them downstairs until the police arrived. They didn't harm our kids, but it was enough to traumatize them.
  2. Lock all valuables. The safe is located in our bedroom. We keep all valuables locked up. Even if someone is able to break into the house they won't have access.
  3. Keep an eye out on burglars. Our neighborhood is known for its high number of burglaries. We watch out for suspicious cars and people.
  4. Have A Backup Plan. We will provide financial support for our family in the event of an emergency. We also have a plan in place to leave the country if necessary.
  5. Prepare. You must be prepared if you find yourself in a position where you have to defend your life. You should always have water and food on hand.
  6. Get help immediately by calling 911. After you discover that someone is breaking into your home, immediately call 911. It's better to call the authorities than to wait for them to break down your door.
  7. Use common sense. You won't allow anyone in who isn't right for you. You should not invite strangers to your home.
  8. Seek out help from neighbors and other people in the local area. If you feel unsafe call neighbors and friends. They can watch your back, while you call the police.
  9. Be calm and follow the instructions of police officers. Be calm and do what officers tell you to. Do not run or resist arrest.
  10. Photograph All Evidence. Take pictures of any evidence found during the investigation. You can take pictures of fingerprints, blood samples, or other evidence.
